The History Behind Our Whiskey Barrels
Whiskey barrels have been around since early 2600 BC. They are made with oak wood, metal rings and hold 55 gallons. Barrels are made by Coopers. They oversee the making of each barrel and help in the assembly process. Coopers also char the inside of the barrels. When the inside of a barrel is charred the oak wood starts to break down. Allowing for better whiskey penetration. This in turn helps boost the spirits flavour in the aging process.
Bulk Direct Barrels are made in Tennessee then shipped by the truckload to the distillery. After arrival at the distillery the barrels get prepped and moved so they can start the filling process. Once filled they plug them and rack them on shelves inside warehouses to give the whiskey time to age and develop its flavour. Some barrels sit on shelves for more than 40 years. After their long shelf life they get emptied and the liquor gets bottled. Once the barrels are emptied they become retired and are deemed no longer usable. Thats where we come in.
